2180910 (ECA) - Case studies as Experiment 10

EXPERIMENT 10
1.  A CASE STUDY OF REPLACING EXISTING LIGHTING SYSTEM (T12 FLUORESCENT) BY LED LIGHT IN THE CAMPUS OF AN INSTITUTIONAL AREA
Estimate Electrical Consumption
• Calculate Total Watts (watts/fixture ×No. of fixtures/1000 = Existing kW)
• Estimate of Annual Hours of Use
• Estimate Annual Lighting Energy Cost (Existing kW × annual hours × Rs/kWh = Rs/year)
Calculate Energy Savings
• Determine new total kW after LED light.
• Determine change in annual operating hours if lighting controls are changed.
• Calculate energy savings (kW before—kW after) × hours of operation = kWh
• Calculate energy cost savings (kWh × Rs./kWh = annual cost savings)

2. A CASE STUDY OF 3 MOTORS TO FIND ENERGY SAVING AND PAYBACK
DATA:
·         75% OF LOADING AND ENERGY CHARGE RS. 7 PER KWH
MOTOR 1
MOTOR 2
MOTOR 3
81% Efficiency, 5KW,
84.7 % Efficiency, 5KW
88.3 % Efficiency, 5KW

Find energy saving and payback period if motor 1 has to be replaced with motor 2 and motor 3
