Departmental Policy regarding MOOCs and Webinars for the Students
ELECTRICAL
ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
GOVERNMENT
ENGINEERING COLLEGE, BHARUCH
Departmental Policy
regarding MOOCs and Webinars for the Students
PREAMBLE:
In this dynamically
changing scenario of education, online learning has become a norm. Currently,
students feel themselves more comfortable when content is delivered through
conventional manner i.e. chalk-duster teaching, books, notes etc. However,
education across the world is shifting from conventional to modern tools such
as online lectures, performing experiments in the virtual laboratory, studies
through virtual and augmented reality etc. Since current generation in colleges
are in transition state, it poses a great challenge to educational system to
transfer them in this new mould so that they can adapt to newer changes in
teaching-learning process and also become self reliant for future knowledge
acquisition. It is therefore necessary to introduce an element of self learning
during regular course of action. In this context, Department of Electrical
Engineering resolves the following,
1. Encouragement
for MOOCs: Students will be encouraged to adopt self learning through
various MOOCs such as edX, Coursera, Udemy, Swayam, NPTEL etc. Since AICTE is
giving major emphasis on SWAYAM courses and even New Education Policy 2020
allows credit transfers in regular studies, it will be good if students join
these courses. At present GTU does not allow credit transfer, therefore to
promote this activity, it is proposed to incentivize students who complete such
courses, in the following manner,
a. A student who
joins a MOOC course related to the theory subject/subject laboratory offered in
current semester or subsequent semester/year and produces a final assessment
certificate, then 50% marks will be directly credited to the student in
internal evaluation component of that subject and he/she will be assessed for
remaining 50% only. If a student joins the course and does not appear in final
assessment exam but overall scores more than 60% in the quizzes/assignments
then, 25% marks will be directly assigned to the student in internal evaluation
of that subject and he will be assessed for remaining 75% only.
b. If a MOOC course
is of generic in nature or of technical subject which is not covered under
current syllabus and he/she gets its certificate, he/she will get 9 points
under 100 point activities.
2. Encouragement
to attend Webinars: Many organizations are dedicatedly working to spread
current field practices among various technical communities. Usually such
topics are not covered in regular syllabus content. Since this is an
opportunity for every student to get know how of the field practices, students
must be encouraged to join such webinars and acquire knowledge beyond syllabus
which will make them better prepared for employment. To encourage for the same,
it is decided to incentivize the students in following manner
a. Departmental
faculty will identify webinars related to the current semester subjects and
will notify the same to the students. The students, who are registered, will
undertake a quiz prepared by the concerned faculty based on the webinar
content. If a student scores more than 60% in the quiz then, 25% marks will be
directly assigned to the student in the internal evaluation component of that
subject.
b. If any student joins a webinar
which is generic in nature or of technical subject which is not covered under
current syllabus and he/she gets its participation certificate, he/she will get
3 points under 100 point activities.
3. Total incentive
due to above, in total, cannot be more than 50% of internal evaluation. A
student will have to remain present in internal evaluation as and when asked
to, without which above criteria will be treated null and void.
All the students are hereby instructed to inform Prof. Nikunj Dhimmar or
Prof. Ami Patel about their registration on any MOOC platform or Webinar to
avail above incentives.
