For 8th Semester Electrical regarding attending classes and reporting for project work


All 8th semester students who are remaining continuously absent in subject classes, laboratories and Project work are hereby strictly instructed to remain present on daily basis, failing which disciplinary actions will be taken. Students who have not reported for projects shall immediately report with their respective guides.

Industrial Visit for 8th Semester Electrical at L&T Ltd.


All the 8th semester Electrical students are hereby informed that industrial visit is planned for two batches of 8th Semester at L&T Knowledge Centre, Vadodara from 23 Feb to 26 Feb 2016 as per following schedule.
Registration fees will be Rs. 700=00 which includes two days training with lunch. All interested shall register along with registration fees from 29/1/16 on first cum first basis. 
Topic name is Electrical switchgear selection and design.

Tentative schedule is as follows.

Batch 1: 30 students
Date: 23/2/16 and 24/2/16

Batch2: 30 students
Date: 25/2/16 and 26/2/16

Design problems



(1)    Design a 5HP, 440v, 50Hz, 1500rpm, 3-ф squirrel cage induction motor. Assume that: specific magnetic loading=0.46wb/m2, specific electric loading=22000ac/m, Efficiency=83%, power factor=0.84, stator winding factor=0.955. Suggest for cheap design.

(2)    Design a 30HP, 440V, 50Hz, 1000rpm,3-ф squirrel cage induction motor. Assume that: specific magnetic loading=0.45wb/m2, specific electric loading=25000ac/m, Efficiency=86%, power factor=0.87, stator winding factor=0.955. Suggest for overall good design.

(3)    Design a 10HP, 440V, 3-Phase, 4-pole, 50Hz squirrel cage induction motor which is to be started using a star-delta starter. Assume:-Average flux density in the gap=0.45wb/m2, Ampere conductors per meter=23000, efficiency=0.85, Power factor=0.84, stator winding factor=0.955. Choose the main dimension to give an overall good design.

(4)    Design a 5HP, 440v, 50Hz, 1500rpm, 3-ф squirrel cage induction motor. Assume that: specific magnetic loading=0.44wb/m2, specific electric loading=24000ac/m, Efficiency=83%, power factor=0.84, stator winding factor=0.955. Suggest for cheap design.

(5)    Design a 15HP, 440V, 3-Phase, 4-pole, 50Hz squirrel cage induction motor which is to be started using a star-delta starter. Assume:-Average flux density in the gap=0.42wb/m2, Ampere conductors per meter=26000, efficiency=0.84, Power factor=0.84, stator winding factor=0.955. Choose the main dimension for good power factor.

(6)    Design a 20HP, 440V, 3-Phase, 6-pole, 50Hz squirrel cage induction motor which is to be started using a star-delta starter. Assume:-Average flux density in the gap=0.42wb/m2, Ampere conductors per meter=26000, efficiency=0.87, Power factor=0.86, stator winding factor=0.955. Choose the main dimension for good Efficiency.

(7)    Design a 15HP, 440v, 50Hz, 1500rpm, 3-ф squirrel cage induction motor. Assume that: specific magnetic loading=0.44wb/m2, specific electric loading=24000ac/m, Efficiency=83%, power factor=0.84, stator winding factor=0.955. Suggest for cheap design.

(8)    Design a 10HP, 440V, 3-Phase, 4-pole, 50Hz squirrel cage induction motor which is to be started using a star-delta starter. Assume:-Average flux density in the gap=0.42wb/m2, Ampere conductors per meter=26000, efficiency=0.84, Power factor=0.84, stator winding factor=0.955. Choose the main dimension for good power factor.

(9)    Design a 30HP, 440V, 3-Phase, 4-pole, 50Hz squirrel cage induction motor which is to be started using a star-delta starter. Choose the main dimension to give an overall good design

NOTE : (1)Draw the parts of induction motor in sheet as per the dimensions calculated from the above                         problem.

                (2)Take one problem from above as per Batch A1-1,A2-2,A3-3,A4-4,B1-5,B2-6,B3-7,B4-8 & B5-9.

  1. Explain dot product and cross product of two vectors.
  2. Explain unit vectors of Cartesian, Cylindrical and Spherical co-ordinate system.
  3. Explain cylindrical co-ordinate system, differential elements and transformation method from Cylindrical to Cartesian co-ordinate system.
  4. Obtain the spherical co-ordinates of (1) 10āx at the point P(x= -3, y= 2, z= 4); (2) 10āy at Q (ρ= 5, ɸ= 30°, z= 4); (3) 10āz at R( r= 4,  Ɵ= 110°, ɸ= 120°)
  5. Given the points A (x= 2, y= 3, z= 1) and B ( r= 4, Ɵ= 25°, ɸ= 120°). Find (1) The spherical co-ordinate of A  (2) The Cartesian co-ordinate of B (3) The distance from A to B.
  6. Transform the vector 4 āx-2āy-4āz into spherical co-ordinates at a point P(x= -2, y= -3, z=4).
